Summary
When four students arrive at Adventure Town School claiming a hippo destroyed their homework, S.A.R.T. investigates what appears to be an unprecedented excuse. They discover Humphrey Hippopotamus has been attempting heroic rescues all morning - grabbing a folder from wind, protecting a poster from gusts, and accidentally sneezing papers into trees - but his good intentions led to chaos and damage. Found crying by Miller's Pond with the collected homework, Humphrey explains his desperate desire to be a hero like S.A.R.T. Adventure Koala helps him see that his attempts actually did save the work from worse fates, while Gerald retrieves papers from a tree using his height. Ms. Penelope evaluates all homework as acceptable despite damage and offers Humphrey the perfect job: school crossing guard, where his size, loudness, and protective instincts become assets rather than liabilities. Humphrey becomes Adventure Town's most enthusiastic crossing guard, finding his true calling in standing still and keeping students safe.
